The Books Are Open- September 13, 2011

“A Republic, if you can keep it.” Benjamin Franklin, 1787

Today, we set a national precedent.

We opened the books. We posted the payroll and pensions of virtually every public employee from every level of Illinois government. Click here to visit the website.

Open the books on your local taxing body. See how they are spending your property, sales, and income taxes. Then, please forward this email to your entire address book.

Our purpose was to help you answer a simple question, “How much does my government cost?” For the first time in history, you can quickly and privately find an answer.

We’ve posted a quarter trillion dollars of government spending. From 2010 alone, our website contains over 900,000 individual salaries, retirement pensions and workers compensation claims.

Let us know what you think. Join the conversation on the blog, forthegoodofillinois.org.

Once you see what your government costs, you might be angry. Let’s channel that emotion constructively. Public officials that make decisions regarding public payroll and pensions need to be held accountable.

My promise was…”open the books”. Today, the books are open.

Many of our public employees are hard-working and receive just compensation for their hard work. But looking at “some” of these, and knowing the corruption and patronage even in my own community, I shake my head in disgust.

Many of these resources receive far more in compensation and benefits than I see in even most of the higher level positions in small, mid-sized and even large companies in the state.

Yet, private business owners are the ones who “own the risk” in our society… They mortgage their homes and often live thrifty lives, sometimes working around the clock, yet they are accussed of being the fat-cats, when in fact, they are often the last ones paid and the first ones punished.

I’m really curious to hear about how difficult it was for you to get all of this information consolidated. Did you run into “human” roadblocks? To me, those are indicators that someone is hiding something.

I was glad to see this finally. As a Former Dem/union voter, I quit that party during the End of Clinton One. I embraced my Conservative roots and began going to Tea Party Rallies. It’s quite easy in IL to see who is FOR American’s and who is for Unsustainable Giant Government. The incredible part is, as it crumbles around them, some deny the Entitlements are in jeopardy. WE live in a STATE like that. They think More New Entitlement programs are the answer to Debt. I have enjoyed the people of the Tea Party Rallies. Great folks. Much more accepting and rational than my old Liberal/Dem/Union friends. I have heard a lot of things that the TEA Party supposedly “IS” by Dems who never went to a Rally. I saw for myself what great, responsible Americans they are. When called a Racist, Homophobe or other Derogatory names, I just show them the photo of the small group of NUNS at the last Tea Party holding “don’t tread on me” flags. I guess THESE are the people the hysterical left are afraid of? At any rate, Good job all responsible Americans and to ADAM and everyone involved for prying Madigan’s hands off the Books. Nov 2nd 2010 was a GREAT Start, THIS open book action in IL can lead to even Better Things in 2012.
