Debating ISU Econ Prof on Pension Reform

Norton - Andrzejewski

Adam Andrzejewski, founder of the group For the Good of Illinois, is applauding a bill (SB2499)  in the state senate co-sponsored by Bill Brady of Bloomington that would prohibit union salaries from being factored into government-funded pensions.

ISU Professor of Finance Edgar Norton agrees that pension reform might be needed but he says the state needs to fully fund and honor pensions it negotiated with union employees. Hear the two spar over the numbers.

    Dear Adam:

Article I, Section 10 applies to States (but not courts!!!).

The legislative history of Article I, Section 10 should be studied in detail by FGI. It may give you an additional argument during future debates against Prof Edgar Norton or some of his colleagues.

    Sincerely,

    Mark
