The Illinois Is Broke Campaign is made up of concerned organizations and citizens from across the state – including business executives, civic organizations and social service agencies, small business owners and employees, parents and students. This effort was initiated by the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago.

We are unified by a common concern for the future of Illinois – its economy, the public services it provides, its business climate and its quality of life. The state is on the brink of insolvency – the consequences of which would impact every person in Illinois.

We have joined together to say: Enough is enough!

I hope kids seeing the ad are not filled with too much fear. I do not live there but just had a conversation with my 20 year old who fears the world she is stepping out nto – trying to make it. It’s already big and scary – out of control.
We need the message of those ads, but they see it too. They need to see reality, but not be so overwhelmed they give up.
What is spurring the ugly things that are happening in cities aroyund the US?
    I pray your effort works.

The commercials are very misleading and filled with nothing but political rhetoric. Not republican or democratic rhetoric just plain political fear mongering rhetoric. The alleged attempts to “reform” the Illinois pension systems are nothing more than a smoke screen for the politicians to appease their private industry campaign donors. Their supposed fix, SB512, does nothing to address past underfunding that was caused by the politicians. It does nothing to address future issues of underfunding by the politicians and it does nothing to address disability issues that may arise for people who choose or who are forced into the 401(k) system. Basically the bill says a lot of nothing except that Springfield is going to take their past financial indiscretions out on their employees.
