Making a difference- taking care of our military men and women.
On December 10, 2012, we announced our “A Good Deed in a Naughty World” Contest. William Shakespeare wrote, “”How far that little candle throws its beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.” Please review contest here.
Announcing the 2012 winner of “A Good Deed” Contest: Mary & Joe Alger.
Their application was submitted by Beverly Perlson, The Band of Mothers. Beverly wrote…
When it comes to good deeds, I know of no couple in this state more active in administering good deeds than Mary & Joe Alger and their most patriotic company, JA Frate. For the last couple of weeks, Joe organized a care package drive for our Troops in Afghanistan and this past weekend his massive effort resulted in “two full 53 foot trailers and $7678 in cash and checks, and about 1000 great letters, posters, handmade flags and art work for our troops.” Joe picked up the packages this past weekend and with alot of other Patriots, delivered them to Operation Support Our Troops American in Lisle, IL.
As the mother of a son who served 4 deployments with the 82nd Airborne in this war on terror, I can tell you these packages and letters mean the world to Warriors over there. This mother, whose his about to be deployed, said it best:
Just want to take a quick minute to thank you. From a mother whose son will be deployed in May, this is such a comfort, to know there are people that show they really care.
I know one day when you meet the Lord in heaven, he will give you a great smile, and say, job well done.
Thanks again to all involved for the never ending support of Americas most precious resource, our military.
God bless you.
In addition to this magnificent good deed, Joe is a Patriot Guard Rider and has attended countless Welcome Homes and funerals for our Fallen. I am so very proud to know Joe and Mary Alger. Their love of our Troops stirs their patriotic hearts to the most noble deeds, and that is so very good for our Troops and so very good for Illinois.
