MEDIA ADVISORY

LAWSUIT FILED TO COMPEL

COMPTROLLER JUDY BAAR-TOPINKA

TO COMPLY WITH STATE LAW AND MAKE AVAILABLE
THE STATE OF ILLINOIS CHECKBOOK FOR PUBLIC REVIEW

Press conference discussing For The Good of Illinois’s lawsuit  for
citizen access to the state’s most important financial data.

How can taxpayers have confidence in any proposed state pension solution, if elected officials are hiding line by line spending?

SPRINGFIELD, IL-  On Tuesday, January 8th, For The Good of Illinois, Inc will unveil their legal action which seeks to compel electronic production of the Illinois’ checkbook.  Two Illinois constitutional officers have ignored the law and forestalled fulfillment of our request. Nine months ago, Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar-Topinka rejected our request; thereafter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan sat silently for five months on our request for an enforcement action.

Adam Andrzejewski, CEO nonprofit For the Good of Illinois, Inc states, “Our lawsuit is the result of the states’ top financial officer refusing to show citizens where taxpayer money is spent and the states’ top law enforcement officer refusing to do anything about it.”

WHEN: Tuesday, January 8th at 10AM

WHERE: Howlett Auditorium, State of Illinois Michael J. Howlett Building,
501 S. 2nd Street, Springfield-  at Second St. & Edwards; enter through NW doors facing Capitol Building, first floor

The mission of For The Good of Illinois is to engage, educate, and empower citizens to demand a transparent, accountable and limited government.
